BERLIN: BLG Logistics has opened a 22,000 sq.mt. plant logistics centre in Falkensee near Berlin to support the Siemens gas turbine facility in Berlin-Moabit and its external location in Berlin-Siemensstadt.
“We’re responsible for picking of the components delivered, on-site transportation with our own trucks, and distribution of the materials to the installation locations in the Siemens plant,“ explained BLG managing director Industrial Logistics Christian Dieckhöfer.
BLG provides customers with procurement logistics, production supply, distribution logistics, customs warehousing, set compilation, technical inspection, and post-processing for customers in machinery and plant construction, high-tech and automotive manufacturing.
In Bremerhaven and Bremen, where the company was founded in 1877, BLG operates terminals for breakbulk and outsize cargo as well as a container freight station at the Eurogate Container Terminal. In addition to stuffing and stripping cargo, it supports the onshore and offshore wind industry with the necessary lots, wharves, high-performance equipment and staff to store and transport heavy-duty components weighing over 1,000 tons.
Last month BLG reported 2017 sales of €1.09 million and produced an 8.8 percent rise in EBIT to €33.5 million. Group CEO Frank Dreeke commented: “As a globally operating company, we depend on the production and therefore goods flow in the global economy. This has proved to be unaffected by political uncertainties. In the long term, the megatrends of energy, environment, technology, transport, health, and digitalisation will provide strong growth impulses. For the BLG Group, we expect sales in business year 2018 to at least match the previous year’s figure.”
