MINSK, Belarus: March 2019. RZD Logistics, part of Russian Railways, has launched a container route to Belarus for the delivery of knock-down kits from China’s largest private car maker Geely Automobile.
RZD Logistics and Belarus Railways logistics subsidiary Belintertrans say they plan to operate 50 container trains this year delivering car kits to the China/Belarus BelGee joint venture factory in the country.
Four trains have already left Chengdu and the company expects to continue a weekly schedule for the rest of the year routing via the Zamyn-Uud border crossing in Mongolia, through Russia at Naushki, and into Belarus via Krasnoye to Zhodino station with a 14-day transit time.
RZD Logistics says it is also considering similar shipments to Belarus from other Geely factories in China.
“We see the interest of automobile manufacturers and dealers to railway delivery and put emphasis on the development of this area of logistics business,” commented RZD Logistics CEO Viacheslav Valentik. “Transportation of knock-down kits in accelerated container train from China to Belarus is three times faster than sea delivery, which allows us to count on switching the volumes from the functioning sea route to rail. This year we not only plan to follow the delivery schedule, but will also work actively on the geographic expansion of Geely products’ shipments from China,” he added.
Headquartered in Hangzhou with manufacturing plants in Luqiao, Linhai, Ningbo/Cixi, Chunxiao, Baoji, Jinzhong, Xiangtan, Jinan and Chengdu, Geely has an annual production capacity of 1.5 million cars and sells them via 880 dealers in China and sales agents in 20 developing countries in the Middle East, Europe and Africa.
