HONG KONG: Kerry Logistics has taken an equity position in Dubai-based Globalink Logistics as part of a joint venture to enhance its services and network under China’s ‘Belt and Road’ initiative.
Established in 1994, Globalink specializes in forwarding and project logistics throughout the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and is expected to provide Kerry with expanded coverage in Central Asia.
The partnership will see nine countries added to Kerry Logistics’ global network including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Ukraine.
Kerry said Kazakhstan would benefit most from the expected rise in transit cargo on the trade lanes between China and Europe.
Group managing director William Ma commented: “While we will continue to develop an overland transportation network for road, rail and multimodal freight services from China to Central Asia and Europe, we will also build upon our expertise in project logistics within our global network to exploit new business opportunities.”
