ISTANBUL: February 22, 2017. Pegasus Airlines has won ‘The Best Low-Cost Airline’ award at the World Tourism Awards ceremony, part of the World Tourism Forum.
Judged by leading NGOs and competing with some of the world’s leading low-cost airlines, Pegasus won the award for its “affordability and high quality service”.
Pegasus’ marketing director Onur Dedeköylü (left of picture with WTF president Bulut Bagci) commented: “At Pegasus, we have a customer-focused approach to running our operations. We value this award greatly as it confirms we’re succeeding in achieving our goals”.
Turkey’s second-largest airline reported a 4.5 percent increase in revenue for the first nine months of 2016 to reach US$800 million and an EBITDAR of US$150.8 million. Ancillary revenue rose 25 percent to reach US$171 million. Net profit for the period was US$12.08 million.
For the first 11 months of 2016 the airline reported an 8.2 percent increase in overall passenger traffic compared to the previous year, including a 3.4 percent rise in international boardings.
In December Pegasus began a four times weekly service from Ankara to Kiev and from Sabiha Gökçen to Mineralnye Vody, a four-hour flight east across the Black Sea to southern Russia. The airline now flies to 102 destinations in 40 countries with 60 B737-800, 18 A320-200s and one B 737-400.
During the Winter season the carrier increased frequencies to Amman, Baghdad, Amsterdam, Budapest, Doha, Bishkek, Oslo, Prague, Pristina, Sarajevo and Skopje to maintain a market share of 60 percent at Sabiha Gökçen airport on the Asian side of Istanbul.
The airport will have completed the construction of a high-speed taxiway by the beginning of the 2017 Summer season that is expected to create additional operating capacity.
